Balfour Beatty Breaks Ground on Morrison Yard Corporate Office Tower

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on January 14, 2021

Balfour Beatty has been awarded $42 million to deliver Morrison Yard, a new 10-story Class A office space located in downtown Charleston. KeithCorp and Origin Development Partners have selected Balfour Beatty to provide preconstruction and construction management services to oversee the completion of a premier officer tower for future tenants at the foot of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge near the Charleston Harbor.

“We are excited to leverage our expertise and bring the vision of this new office tower to life,” said Jeff Sandeen, senior vice president for Balfour Beatty in Charlotte. “Once completed, the tower will provide an ideal space for tenants and serve as a great addition to downtown Charleston community.”

Located in the Upper Peninsula district, the state-of-the-art office tower will feature sustainable design and construction elements and will be one of the City’s first major projects to pursue Charleston RISES, a high performance building certification designed to address the specific green building needs, priorities and strategies for the South Carolina region. The tower will include 140,000-square-feet of office space, 8,000 square-feet of ground floor retail and a four-story parking deck for approximately 377 cars.

Balfour Beatty will leverage the latest technologies and lean construction methods to deliver the new office tower, including utilizing drone technology to provide tenants with potential views of their new office space. Construction for Morrison Yard is slated for completion in Summer 2022.
