Balfour Beatty Ranked No. 1 Top Southeast Education Contractor by Engineering News-Record

by Balfour Beatty on July 28, 2020

Engineering News-Record (ENR) has named Balfour Beatty the Southeast’s No. 1 contractor in the education market sector for 2020. The industry publication’s annual Top Contractors list ranks firms based on national, region and market sector-specific revenue from the previous year. The ENR Southeast ranking includes data submitted by general contractors operating in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.

Education is a strategic market for Balfour Beatty across the country, including the company’s Southeast operations that was awarded $278.85 million in K-12 and higher education revenue in 2019. With K-12 education expertise based throughout the Southeast region in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Wilmington, Atlanta and Decatur. Balfour Beatty teams have extensive experience with a broad range of education projects, including K-12, higher education, new construction, renovation and additions, and leveraging the latest technologies and lean construction methods to safely deliver facilities for these communities.

Balfour Beatty’s K-12 education work in the Southeast includes its long-term relationship with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools who have partnered together to successfully deliver six school projects across the district, including the new Rea Farms STEAM K-8 School set for completion in 2020. The company also provided construction management services for City Schools of Decatur’s New Talley Street Elementary School, the district’s first new elementary school built since the early 1970s.

The company also has a long-standing relationship with the University of North Carolina’s (UNC) Charlotte and Wilmington campuses where Balfour Beatty teams utilize drone technology to perform real-time quality control to successfully deliver higher education buildings. These facilities include UNC Charlotte’s 130,000-square-foot Science Building, which will foster interdisciplinary science education and research and provide a collaborative environment for students and faculty, and UNC Wilmington’s Parking Deck, Allied Health and Dobo Hall buildings.

“It is an honor that our education clients entrust us to construct award-winning school facilities that mold our community’s future leaders of tomorrow,” said Pat Dean, Balfour Beatty president of the Southeast. “To be ranked the No. 1 education contractor in the Southeast is a great recognition for our project teams and it reflects our commitment to delivering facilities that support our partner’s commitment to provide innovative and sustainable learning spaces that will serve thriving communities for generations. It is our promise to continue our efforts to successfully deliver these facilities that will transform lives, communities and environments, and be an exceptional partner and good steward to our client’s heritage and future.”
