Building More Than Structures: HarperXS Supports Front Porch Housing’s Mission
When construction expertise meets community compassion, the result is more than renovated space; it is a foundation for brighter futures. Front Porch Housing (FPH) is a Greenville-based non-profit with a program focused on providing dignified housing paired with intensive wrap-around services to help individuals and families build a strong foundation for life. When FPH started looking for support on several projects for their three-year supportive housing program, Harper General Contractors’ small services and on-call division, HarperXS, was the natural fit for the jobs.
The greatest impact of these projects comes from creating permanent, reliable spaces that allow Front Porch Housing to fully deliver its three-year supportive housing program. With many of FPH’s services largely volunteer-driven, HarperXS approached the projects with a focus on durability and functionality, helping ensure that nurses, dentists, childcare providers, and financial support volunteers can serve families consistently without working around facility limitations or ongoing maintenance concerns. Taking a community-forward approach, HarperXS donated all the profit back to FPH at the end of the job.
The work included renovations and construction of a childcare facility, and two medical offices, creating safe, functional spaces designed to help FPH deliver critical care in one central location. Instead of addressing childcare, healthcare, and financial recovery as separate challenges, FPH offers a coordinated approach that helps reduce common barriers, including transportation, scheduling, and cost for families working to rebuild stability.
The impact extends beyond physical improvement. By supporting spaces that enable childcare, basic medical and dental care, and financial guidance, the projects help single parents focus on recovery, employment, and financial stability while maintaining a safe, structured environment for their children.
“There are a lot of teammates of mine – and myself – who have strong personal connections with folks out at FPH,” said Ryan Frey, Division Manager at HarperXS. “It’s been a great experience for us to have our teammates working alongside the FPH team and learning about their mission along the way. At the end of the day, it’s humbling to be able to support an organization that is making an impact on the community, and I’m glad our team could play a small part in their mission over the past year.”
Through this partnership, HarperXS helped create the infrastructure that allows Front Porch Housing to continue delivering life-changing services and building pathways toward independence for individuals and families across the Upstate.
