CAGC Leaders Take to Capitol Hill

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on October 3, 2017

The officers of Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC)’s Board of Directors met last week with members of the Congressional delegations of North Carolina and South Carolina to encourage support for infrastructure funding, help with the workforce shortage, reform the federal permitting process, enact comprehensive tax reform and ease red tape for trade association members in making federal Political Action Committee contributions.

“We had outstanding meetings with Congressional members and their staff as well as excellent educational presentations from AGC of America,” said Marty McKee, Chairman of the CAGC Board of Directors.

The Capitol Hill visits were a highlight of the three-day annual meeting, the 2017 National and Chapter Leadership Conference (NCLC), that is offered in Washington, D.C., by AGC of America to its 92 chapter members. Attending the event, representing CAGC, were Chair Marty McKee of King Asphalt; Chair-Elect Paul Mashburn of Mashburn Construction Co.; Treasurer Ron Brown of State Utility Contractors; Vice Chair Casey Schwager of Sloan Construction; Immediate Past Chair Edison Cassels of Edison Foard; and Dave Simpson, CAGC President & CEO. More than 300 people, representing most of the AGC chapters from across the nation, attended the conference that was held Sept. 24-26th.

CAGC visits included a number of visits with key Congressional members and their staff as well as a tour of the U.S. Capitol. Other visits included meetings with staff of U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC; Rep. Tom Rice, R-SC, 7th Congressional District; Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-SC, 3rd Congressional District; and Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-NC, 10th Congressional District.
