CarolinaPower Apprentices Place in Charleston Electrical Contractors Association (CECA) Competition

by Joan Krause on May 1, 2019

CarolinaPower’s Richie Seely and Branden Panausuia placed in the 2019 Apprenticeship Skills Competition hosted this spring by Charleston’s Trident Technical College. Seely took second place in the First-Year Apprentices division while Punausuia came in third among Second-Year Apprentices.

The 2019 Apprenticeship Skills competition was part of the annual Electricians Fair and Career Day jointly sponsored by the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association (CECA), Careers Cluster Partnership-Construction Trades (CCP), and Trident Workforce Investment Board (TWIB).

The 32 competitors represented a mix of high school students, career center students, and electricians working in the field. All of the Apprentices wore proper PPE from start to finish, and several instructors were on site to provide safety counsel. Trident Technical College President Dr. Mary Thornley presented the awards following the competition.

Johnny Monroe and Madison Younginer represented CarolinaPower at the all-day event. They set up a booth to promote career opportunities with our company, speaking with a number of potential future apprentices and providing information about career paths in electrical construction to those who stopped by.

“We’re proud of Branden and Richie for their hard work on our jobsites, which ultimately led to their success in this competition. It was great to see such a strong showing of aspiring electricians along with personnel willing to support them in their career development,” said Younginer.
