SeamonWhiteside Expands into Western North Carolina with New Asheville Office

by GroundBreak Carolinas on August 17, 2026

Strategic expansion brings full-service site design expertise closer to clients and communities throughout the region

SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, today announced the opening of its newest office in downtown Asheville. Located at 60 Biltmore Ave, the new office will serve as a hub for the firm’s integrated civil engineering, landscape architecture, master planning, site design, and construction administration services.

The expansion is led by Austin Greenhalge, civil engineering senior project manager and Asheville office leader, alongside Shawn Sanes, landscape architecture senior project manager. Both professionals bring more than a decade of experience and deep roots in Western North Carolina, giving clients a trusted local team backed by the resources of one of the Carolinas’ leading site design firms.

SW+ has supported projects throughout Western North Carolina for years from its Upstate South Carolina offices. Opening a permanent Asheville location allows the firm to better serve existing clients, build new partnerships, and provide local expertise at a time when the region continues its economic recovery and growth following Hurricane Helene.

“Western North Carolina has always been home to me, and I’m excited to help lead SW+’s investment in the community where I grew up,” said Greenhalge. “Being based in Asheville allows us to build stronger relationships with clients, local governments, and community partners while providing the responsive, collaborative service they deserve. We look forward to helping shape the next chapter of growth across the region.”

The Asheville office launches with a four-person team:

  • Austin Greenhalge, civil engineering senior project manager and Asheville office leader
  • Shawn Sanes, landscape architecture senior project manager
  • Julia Hauser, civil designer III
  • Dave Foster, construction administration project coordinator

The team combines local knowledge with expertise across civil engineering, landscape architecture, permitting, construction administration, and site design, allowing SW+ to serve projects ranging from commercial and mixed-use developments to public spaces and community-focused initiatives. The Asheville office will draw on SW+’s full range of services and expertise across the firm, providing clients with the benefits of comprehensive resources and capabilities while maintaining the advantages of a dedicated local presence. As the office grows, SW+ plans to expand both its civil engineering and landscape architecture teams, creating additional jobs while maintaining the firm’s culture of passion, collaboration, quality, and care.

“Opening an Asheville office represents more than a new location for SW+,” said Danny Balon, director at SeamonWhiteside. “It’s an investment in Western North Carolina, its people, and its future. Austin and Shawn bring the local relationships, experience, and leadership needed to establish a strong presence in this market, and we’re committed to growing alongside the communities we serve by creating jobs, supporting economic development, and delivering thoughtful site design solutions.”

Beyond project work, SW+ plans to become an active member of the Asheville community through philanthropy, volunteerism, and partnerships that align with the firm’s Green Square initiative, supporting education, wellness, and vibrant communities.

As Western North Carolina continues its recovery and long-term growth, SW+ is committed to helping communities navigate development responsibly while creating places that strengthen the region for generations to come.
