A M King Kicks Booty and Fights Cancer at 18th Annual 24 Hours of Booty

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on August 23, 2019

The 24 Foundation’s 18th Annual 24 Hours of Booty (24 HOB) charity cycling event benefiting cancer survivorship programs brought heart, sweat and soul to the Myers Park neighborhood in Charlotte, N.C. On July 26 and 27, neighbors camped out in their front yards to watch 1,130 members of 127 teams get set for the three-mile Booty Loop. At the starting line there were people from all walks of life joined for a single reason, to fight cancer.

Team A M King was no different than the hundreds of riders surrounding them, each employee devoted to a purpose for riding the loop. A M King has been participating in 24 HOB since 2014 with more employees joining the team each year. In preparation for the event, A M King invited Lisa Dale, 24 Foundation Regional Director, to visit their Charlotte office to share with Assistant Project Manager and endurance athlete, Joe Day, her personal experiences with cancer and how 24 HOB has impacted her attitude towards the disease.

“The point of the 24 HOB event is to celebrate life,” said Lisa. “By joining forces with the mission of 24 Foundation, we can provide hope and change the course of cancer by advancing local and national cancer survivorship and navigation programs.” After speaking with Lisa about the event, Joe said his mindset going into the ride had changed. “My approach to this year’s 24 HOB will be to slow down and focus on making connections. I’m going to listen to stories about people’s journey with cancer and how 24 Foundation has positively impacted their lives,” he said.

This is exactly what Joe, along with the rest of the 48 members of Team A M King, did. As laps were conquered, walls were broken between survivors, patients and supporters who shared the ways that cancer had impacted their own lives and how they planned to celebrate life at every possible moment.

Continuing the excitement off the loop, A M King held a 24 HOB party at A M King President and Founder Brian King’s home in Myers Park. Participants gathered around to commemorate the accomplishments of the team, including a record-breaking 50-percent company participation rate. Some didn’t stay long however, with goals of riding the course for the entire 24-hour period.

Together, five members of Team A M King managed to represent the company each hour of the ride. In the end, they collectively rode an impressive 700 miles. This year the team doubled the number of participants, bringing in more donations than ever before. “This past month has been incredible for our community,” said Lisa. “We are grateful for A M King and the support you all bring to 24 HOB and our cancer community.”

In 2019, the event raised more than $1.4 million adding to the $21 million raised since the foundation’s inception. 24 Foundation aims to inspire and engage communities to make an immediate impact on the lives of people affected by cancer and A M King is committed to help carry their mission all over the Carolinas.
