A M King Prepares Tasty Taco Bar for Families at Ronald McDonald House of Greenville
Four times per year A M King’s team in Greenville, S.C. meets in the spacious kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House (RMH). They don’t come empty handed. On a recent Friday night, they brought ground beef, salsa and chocolate chips, among many other items. Their mission? Prepare a delicious taco bar, complete with cilantro-lime rice, watermelon, and chocolate chip dessert lasagna for 30 people.
Providing meals for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House is an integral part of making the House a home away from home and A M King strives to make dinners that reflect that goal. A couple of months ago their creative menu included baked chicken, rice, broccoli, cranberry salad, rolls and make-your-own sundaes. Most recently A M King’s taco bar chef lineup included Andre Harris, Business Unit Leader; Steve Gordon, Senior Construction Manager; Kelly Topper, Accounts Payable Specialist; Beverly Connor, Office Manager and Rita Burch, Project Assistant.
“Cooking dinners at Ronald McDonald House brings some people in our group out of their comfort zone,” explains Rita Burch. “But the sense of accomplishment we all experience afterward is incredible. Our goal each time is to make nutritious, filling meals for families who are enduring so much that is out of their control.”
A M King has a longstanding relationship with both the Ronald McDonald Houses in Charlotte and Greenville. In February the Charlotte crew completed an office suite renovation at the East Morehead building. In April we participated in Sport a Shirt, Share a Night Casual Friday benefiting families in need. And last November, our team was one of 25 participating at the Red Shoe Shootout, helping the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte raise more than $33,000 — which covered 232 nights for families to stay at RMH while their child is receiving medical care.
In addition to the Ronald McDonald House, A M King has also developed strong partnerships with other community organizations, such as 24 Foundation (24 Hours of Booty, July 26); Starmount Academy of Excellence (Fill the Truck, Aug. 22); and the Salvation Army of Charlotte and Salvation Army Serving Greenville, SC (Angel Tree Program, December).
At each event, A M King is there to lend a hand —hard hats, warm hearts, home-cooked meals and all.
