A M King Provides over 450 School Uniforms, Plus School Supplies to Starmount Academy
Charlotte, NC — A M King sent its employees back to school last Thursday. They stood out in blue shirts, emblazoned with the inscription “Hard Hats Warm Hearts,” as they gave out hundreds of red and gray uniformed shirts and much needed school supplies to students.
The Charlotte-based Design-Build firm is partnering with Starmount Academy of Excellence—a Pre-K through fifth grade public school where 97 percent of the 460 students participate in free or reduced lunch programs — to address some of the school’s greatest needs for its students. “We want to assist a school that would benefit greatly from our efforts and resources,” says A M King President Brian King. “Starmount Academy does a wonderful job providing education to these children, and we are excited about helping them accomplish their work.”
“A M King was literally a God-sent partnership,” says Nancy Martinez, Starmount Academy of Excellence Principal. “We received so many phone calls from many of our low income families who were struggling with funding to purchase uniforms and school supplies. As a small school, our ability to offset those costs was limited. The Starmount school community was amazed at the generosity and commitment displayed by A M King and its employees! As a principal, I am moved and excited about this partnership and what we will be able to accomplish together.”
A M King hopes to ease the burden this year and make Back-to-School a positive experience, something for parents and students to happily anticipate. Providing donations at the open house was a great start. We distributed two uniformed shirts for every student, and supplies for teachers, including 2,000 cases of No. 2 pencils, 1,440 composition notebooks, 320 sets of ear buds and 320 cases of crayons.
We delivered not only needed clothes and supplies, but a little end-of-summer cheer with free Hawaiian-style shaved Kona Ice for every student.
“Supporting children and families in need, and promoting education, has always been the focus of A M King’s community efforts,” explains Brian King. “This is evidenced by our continued support of the Salvation Army Christmas Angels, the Ronald McDonald House and other charitable causes. ‘Fill The Truck’ is a continuation of these efforts, serving both the children and the education needs in our communities.”
