ABC Carolinas Celebrates 2023 EIC Awards Project-of-the-Year Winners
ABC Carolinas was excited to honor the amazing work of its members during the 2023 Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards gala in Charlotte on November 9, 2023. First-place (Eagle) and runner-up (Merit) awards were presented in multiple categories in two divisions (General Contractors and Specialty Contractors), along with the exclusive Carolinas BIM Award, Design-Build Award, and Free Alliance Enterprise award. As is tradition, Project of the Year awards were the last to be unveiled.
General Contractor Project of the Year
The 2023 General Contractor Project of the Year was taken home by Rodgers Builders for the First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte Restoration and Renovations located in Charlotte, NC. First Presbyterian Church, dating to 1857, stands as one of Charlotte’s oldest landmarks. Rodgers performed comprehensive interior restorations and renovations to the channel, choir loft, organ loft, and sanctuary, and transformed the library into a spacious Welcome Center for congregants. The renovations provide handicap accessibility, roomier pews, improved lighting, event space, and a new pipe organ, enriching the visitor experience while preserving the church’s history.
“We build buildings with a purpose,” said Jane Freeman, with Rodgers Builders. The project team for the First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte Restoration and Renovation added that they are “Thrilled about this win because this project was intrusively important to the community, and it helped foster work in the community while preserving a historical landmark.”
Specialty Contractor Project of the Year
The 2023 Specialty Contractor Project of the Year was taken home by Adams Electric for the Novant Health Ballantyne Medical Center & MOB located in Charlotte, NC. This new three-story, 48-bed Community Hospital is equipped with an Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient services, and a Medical Office Building to support the growing Ballantyne community. Despite unprecedented electrical equipment lead times due to the pandemic and many unforeseen challenges during construction, the project team used collaboration and technology to overcome difficulties and drive innovation.
“This would have been a completely impossible project without the collaboration of the entire team. It was a team effort from start to finish. The project’s success was the result of everyone’s efforts,” said Matt Anderson with Adams Electric.
The Adams project team for Novant Health Ballantyne – Medical Center & MOB noted, “This project had many obstacles including overcoming supply chain issues, late gear, and redesign efforts. We are incredibly thrilled to win the Specialty Contractor Project of the Year Award for the first time.”
Congratulations to the ABC Carolinas 2023 Project of the Year winners!
