ABC Members Finish 1st and 2nd During NC State Fair Apprenticeship Competition
Yesterday the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas celebrated the 150th anniversary of the North Carolina State Fair by participating in the 33rd annual Electrical Apprenticeship Competition. Each year, ABC and it’s members participate in all apprenticeship contest(s), which includes: masonry, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC competitions. This year, we are proud to announce that two of our member companies had employees finish in 1st and 2nd place during the electrical portion of the 2017 event.
Clinton Haithcock of Starr Electric finished in first place, while Watson Electrical’s David Carlton Jr finished in second place. The contest consists of both a “hands-on” project and written examination. The competition is scored based on the following guidelines: workmanship, accuracy of layout and installation, productivity, adherence to the National Electrical Code, and operation of an energized system. ABC’s director of apprenticeship, Jeff Morris noted, “We would like to thank NC Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler, Kathryn Castelloes Director of Apprenticeship NC and contest chairman, Eddie Reaves for a spectacular event. ABC is proud to recognize it’s members and apprentices success during this years event.”
The mission of the ABC Apprenticeship & Education Program is to provide the construction industry with the most qualified and technically trained people at all levels through various educational opportunities to strengthen the construction workforce in the Carolinas. ABC works cooperatively with other organizations and member companies, such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) to offer programs that carry with them both a high educational and skills for a successful career.
