ABC’s Clemson Student Chapter Places in National Competition
ABC Carolinas Chapter Clemson Student Chapter recently competed in the Construction Management Competition (CMC) held during the ABC Convention 2023 in Orlando, Florida, on March 16. This robust competition begins in mid-January, with the students putting together a bid package for a current project that is in progress.
The Clemson Student Chapter earned 1st place in the Project Management and Estimating categories, 2nd in Quality Control, and 3rd in Safety. The four categories and their overall presentation awarded them 3rd Overall place. We are proud of their hard work.
“The students are the real heroes of Clemson University and Nieri Department of Construction and Development and Planning in our consistently high-level performance among the best Construction Management schools across the US. 21 schools were competing this year, and Clemson showed up again by placing in all five categories – the only school to do so,” said Vivek Sharma, Ph.D., LEED AP, Assistant Professor, Clemson University.
The ABC Construction Management Competition is a hallmark competition that promotes careers in construction management. The competition is designed to challenge construction knowledge, organization, time management, and presentation skills. This competition gives the nation’s top construction management students a glimpse into the real world of construction, as well as an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Sharma noted, “This annual competition gives the nation’s top construction management students a glimpse into the real world of construction, and it is by far the most comprehensive format I have seen.”
In addition to providing a significant learning opportunity, the competition fosters an environment that will bring out the best in each team; encourage dialogue among the students; and foster team spirit as students rise to meet this challenge.
