AIA ASPIRE Conference to Feature Sarah Susanka

by Brian Gallagher on March 31, 2019

Acclaimed speaker and sought-after media resource Sarah Susanka will be the AIA Southeast Region ASPIRE Conference on Monday April, 15, evening keynote speaker.

Susanka is known for her book and presentations about The Not So Big Life, where she uses the same set of ideas to demonstrate that we can feel “at home” in our lives only when what we do follows who we truly are. Sarah reveals the process of changing the way we live by being in each moment of our lives fully and by being present in whatever is happening.

Regularly called upon for her insights as a trend-spotter and social commentator, Sarah has shared her knowledge with The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and The New York Times; magazines include Better Homes & Gardens, AARP, Reader’s Digest, and Newsweek; and television such as “Good Morning America,” “Oprah,” “Charlie Rose,” HGTV, “This Old House,” and CNN. The Wall Street Journal invited Susanka to write an essay on “The Future of Home” in 2014 and the essay then appeared in the 125th Anniversary edition of the newspaper along with essays from other thought leaders including Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Ford.

Builder Magazine has acknowledged Sarah as one of the 30 most notable innovators in the housing industry over the past 30 years. She was also named to Fast Company’s debut list of “Fast 50” innovators whose achievements have helped to change society, Newsweek magazine chose her as a “top newsmaker,” and U.S. News and World Report dubbed her an “innovator in American culture.” In 2007 Sarah was presented with the 2007 Anne Morrow Lindbergh Award by the Lindberg Foundation for outstanding individual achievement in making positive contributions to our world.

Susanka is also a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council. ASPIRE is looking forward to hearing her speak as our Monday night Keynote.
