BE&K Building Group Employees Participate in Colon Cancer Coalition’s “Get Your Rear in Gear” 5K Run/Walk in Charlotte

Last month several employees from BE&K Building Group gathered at Charlotte’s Independence Park for the 13th annual “Get Your Rear in Gear” 5K Run/Walk — part of the largest colon cancer-focused event series in the country. “Get Your Rear in Gear” events raise funds for the Colon Cancer Coalition, a nationally recognized partner in the fight against colon cancer.

BE&K Building Group participants joined the Blue Ribbon Warriors, an enthusiastic team organized by the Gray  Family in support of Jane Gray Boland, marketing manager based in BE&K Building Group’s Charlotte office. Since being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer nearly three years ago, Boland has persevered, against the odds — essentially becoming a “poster child” at Charlotte’s Levine Cancer Institute in celebration of her progress, positive attitude, and high energy.

The Blue Ribbon Warriors raised a total of $4,000 which will be used to educate and promote awareness for Colorectal Cancer, the second deadliest form of cancer. Funds will also help support local screenings and programs for survivors, their families and caregivers. This year’s Blue Ribbon Warriors team had a total of 83 participants, up from 61 people last year. BE&K Building Group walkers and runners included Mike Baumbach and wife Renee, Jane Boland and family of 12, Harold Brewer, Teresa Darnell, Tina McAdams, Mitzi Scarborough, Hailey Smith, Jeff Thompson and wife Laurel, and Candace Watson. They were supported by a number of virtual participants and contributors.

The Charlotte “Get Your Rear in Gear” event, held on Saturday, March 4, was one of nearly 50 such Walk/Runs scheduled for 2017 in various cities throughout the United States. To find out more about the Colon Cancer Coalition, click here.
