BIM Track announces enterprise agreement with Brasfield & Gorrie

by BIM Track on April 17, 2020

Press Release

Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the nation’s largest privately-held construction firms, was looking for a better way to communicate and keep track of RFIs across multiple systems. These coordination challenges led Brasfield & Gorrie to BIM Track, a web-based issue tracking platform that allows multiple stakeholders to coordinate on BIM-based projects.

Blake Potts, Regional VDC Manager in Brasfield & Gorrie’s Dallas office immediately saw that one of the biggest advantages of BIM Track was that they didn’t need to do away with their existing software/coordination process. “What’s smart is that BIM Track’s not trying to upend traditional software, it’s a complement to it,” shares Potts. “For a long time, there just wasn’t a better way to run coordination.”

Adding accountability to the BIM coordination process

When you are working on a large-scale project with thousands of clashes, it can be challenging to see what’s really important. How do you ensure issues get resolved? There are many ways to go about finding and distributing constructability issues, but the process of assigning, tracking, resolving and following up on the resolution of these issues is time-consuming, painstakingly manual, and not the best use of company skills. Searching through long email threads for a screenshot, and then searching subsequently through the model seems outdated in today’s connected world.

BIM Track is improving this process, offering a way to manage the communication and assignment of issues and track them through to resolution. In BIM Track, users can see a snapshot of the issue in-context and assign it to the relevant person with comments. Teams can see real-time updates all while monitoring the resolution in one centralized location that is accessible directly from a web browser, including running natively inside Revit, Navisworks AutoCAD, and Tekla Structures. The metrics dashboard crunches all the metadata collected in BIM Track to give live visual project analysis and powerful insights at a glance to mitigate project delays and risk to the project schedule.

“One of the key benefits I have consistently witnessed with Brasfield & Gorrie, along with many of our customers, is that BIM Track improves their coordination meetings, allowing them to focus the meetings on big-ticket constructability issues. It also gives them the confidence that BIM Track is managing all the thousands of smaller issues, keeping the team accountable so that nothing falls between the cracks, even allowing them to elevate issues to RFIs with the direct integration between BIM Track and Procore. Additionally, BIM Track is very complementary to their existing Autodesk tech stack, including BIM 360.”

John Barkwell, Director of Business Development USA at BIM Track

Mark Dempsey, a licensed architect who serves as Senior Virtual Design Coordinator at Brasfield & Gorrie, reports that BIM Track vastly improves the effectiveness of their time management. The ability to filter and group issues by criticality, discipline, zone, and other attributes means that they are spending more time on important issues instead of weeding out nonimportant items.

Brasfield & Gorrie started implementing BIM Track two years ago, and hasn’t looked back since, with 16 projects complete or actively using BIM Track. When they took on an ambitious mixed-use project in midtown Atlanta spanning an entire city block, they decided to use BIM Track from day one. Mark says, “BIM Track has been such an asset, helping us stay organized and keep our trade partners up to speed. We even have subcontractors asking us if we will be using it on future projects. It’s really streamlined the process for us.”
