Builders Mutual Participates in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down

by GroundBreak Staff on May 8, 2017

Builders Mutual Insurance Company announced they will be participating in the 2017 OSHA National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction May 8-12, 2017.  During the week, Builders Mutual will partner with the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) and Little Giant Ladder Systems, Inc. to host Tailgate to Educate events in Fuquay-Varina and Concord, NC.  A third event will be held in Columbia, SC.

During the Tailgate to Educate events, Builders Mutual risk management trainers will present bi-lingual safety talks while NCDOL staff demonstrate proper wear and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).  Little Giant Ladder Systems, Inc. will provide onsite ladder demonstrations to show proper ladder safety techniques.  Additionally, risk management representatives in our market footprint will meet with policyholders on their job-sites to provide fall protection safety information and encourage them to stand-down for safety.  In conjunction with the stand-down, the first Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI) video focused on ladder safety and produced with the National Association of Homebuilders will be available in both English and Spanish.

“Presenting Tailgate to Educate events during the 2017 OSHA National Safety Stand-down provides a platform for Builders Mutual to reiterate the importance of fall protection and general job-site safety,” states Mike Gerber, SVP/Chief Marketing Officer at Builders Mutual, “Partnering with the NCDOL and Little Giant Ladder Systems helps us provide additional education for workers to help them stay safe on their job-sites.”

“Little Giant is attacking the inherent risks specific to ladders and is reducing ladder injuries and fatalities,” states Ryan Moss, CEO of Little Giant Ladder Systems and President of the American Ladder Institute. “Every day 2,000 people are injured while using a ladder; one hundred suffer a long-term or permanent disability, and one person will die. We have analyzed the five leading causes of ladder accidents and have engineered solutions that reduce injuries. As the industry’s leader in ladder safety and innovation, we are proud to partner with Builders Mutual in pursuit of our common goal to prevent injuries and save lives.”

This is the fourth year Builders Mutual has participated and encouraged our policyholders to join in the National Safety Stand-Down and the second year we partnered with the NCDOL for Tailgate to Educate events. Learn more about Builders Mutual Safety Stand-Down.
