Building, Supporting, Maintaining: Harper Announces New HarperXS Division

by GroundBreak Carolinas on February 18, 2023

Harper General Contractors has long been a leading innovator in construction services in the Southeast. As they continue to evolve, Harper has seen the importance of pursuing new opportunities to grow and provide even more value to their clients and community. In 2015, Harper leadership saw a need to provide their current and future clients with an option to help solve maintenance issues and work on smaller projects.

Fast forward to today and Harper is proud to reintroduce this group as HarperXS, opening new doors for ventures in their Commercial and Environmental Systems Divisions. HarperXS provides clients with solutions for ongoing or emergency maintenance, indefinite-delivery contracts, master service agreements, and task order contracts, as well as new construction renovation services for projects with smaller budgets and scopes.

A Look into Working with HarperXS

“For me, it’s not about the size of a project – I enjoy the challenge of leveraging our resources and talents to meet the needs of our clients and communities,” said Ryan Frey, Division Manager on HarperXS. In Frey’s view, there is no project too small, and he encourages potential and current clients to reach out as soon as they have an idea about a possible project. The HarperXS team is collaborative and solutions-oriented, meaning they approach each project with an open mind.

A large part of building trust is listening. The specific needs of the client are always considered. The team seeks to know the client, their needs, and their facility in a way that enables HarperXS to function as an extension of the client’s staff. They believe their collaborative approach to projects, regardless of size or schedule, provides the best team, best value, and a quality product because the client is actively participating in the decision-making process. This is how they train HarperXS project managers and superintendents to approach a project, whether it is alternative delivery, design-bid-build, emergency, or indefinite delivery. “You will not find a more cooperative and creative team of construction professionals than the HarperXS team. Collaboration, creativity, and agility are several key factors that set our team apart,” noted Frey on how HarperXS acts as a team and partner to work through a solution together.

Continuing to be a team that fits the needs of their clients, HarperXS offers services outside of the traditional contract methods. HarperXS provides clients with an option to serve through multiple types of agreements. These agreements provide pre-negotiated rates or agreed-upon lump sum value, taking the burden of maintenance off the client’s in-house team. HarperXS has deep experience in these types of projects and can, therefore, understand the needs quickly and develop a plan that does not compromise the client’s operations while delivering high-quality performance. They have successfully completed projects including improvements, facility upgrades, emergency response services, customizable maintenance plans, minor repairs, and large renovation projects.

This past holiday season, HarperXS was called to help respond to an emergency at the City of Westminster (South Carolina) water plant. Cold temperatures over the Christmas holiday damaged valves at the plant – and the staff turned to the HarperXS team to assess the situation and deliver an effective, creative solution.

Westminster’s Water Treatment Facility Manager, Dianna Dieska expressed her appreciation to the HarperXS team for their quick response, writing “What means the most to me is that I was able to reach out to you during [a] holiday and you responded when you didn’t have to. You really went above and beyond the call of service to help me out in my serious time of need and that means the world to me… to be able to count on you to be there when I needed you most and especially just having you to give me moral support during a very difficult time… I know I can always count on Harper to be there for me no matter the time or day. I trust Harper with all my water plant needs.”

Summarizing the intention of HarperXS, Frey added “The goal of HarperXS is to become an extension of the client’s staff, to alleviate operational maintenance issues by having a team of experts you already know and trust.”

Harper is excited to offer this new service line to continue moving toward Harper’s mission of building trust.
