CAGC: Young Leader Spotlight

by Carolinas AGC on April 28, 2017

The following Young Leader Spotlight feature is from the Carolinas AGC.

Corey Arledge, Executive Director of Safety with Eldeco, Inc.

My decision to work in the field of safety came from a desire to see injuries in the work place stop. I worked as a carpenter prior to getting into safety and quickly realized how dangerous construction is and after seeing the declining health of my grandfather, which was partly attributed to poor safety practices as he was a pipefitter and welder his entire working life. One thing became very clear, there must be a better way. So, my passion today is simple, my “Light Switch Moment” was with my grandfather’s passing in which I quickly realized “Safety Matters, Because People Matter”. I can help others see the light of “At Risk” situations and learn to avoid and or eliminate them before an accident occurs by simply caring for them as individuals and not as a number.

1. What motivates you to work hard?
My responsibility to my personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His Commandment to “Love your neighbor as yourself”, He is the reason that I stand where I am and the last thing I want to do is let Him down.

2. What is your favorite thing about your career?
Being able to get to know people on a personal level and having the opportunity to actively “Care for them” personally. That is the only message in Safety that matters.

3. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a father, helping to raise a gift from God that He has made me responsible for.

4. What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?
89.3 His Radio and 106.9 The Light

5. If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Definitely yard work, allergies are horrible.

6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Bar B Que, all kinds.
