CarolinaPower Responds to Growing Demand for Electric Vehicle Charger Installations
As CarolinaPower continues to implement an aggressive plan for growth in the Carolinas electrical service and construction community, the company is gaining momentum as a sought-after service provider for Electric Vehicle (EV) charger installations. GroundBreak Carolinas recently caught up with CarolinaPower’s Madison Younginer, Business Development Executive, to gain further insight into how the emerging EV market fits into the company’s strategic plan.
When/Why did CarolinaPower enter this market?
As an electrical contractor, the growth in demand for electric vehicles caught the attention of our team when the market started to emerge just over a decade ago. We have taken a more targeted approach in the last two years due to the global growth in electric vehicle production.
Who is this service for? Residential, Commercial, or both?
Our efforts target both residential and commercial clients. We do not typically perform residential work, but charging station installations have been a great fit for our service team.
How big is this market? Where’s it headed?
Analysts have projected one out of every four vehicles to come off the production line will be an electric vehicle by 2030. Whether or not that is achieved, we believe this market is growing steadily and will provide substantial opportunities for our company to assist in the infrastructure and charging efforts.
What geographic region are you serving?
CarolinaPower will be performing installations in South Carolina and North Carolina markets. Two of our sister companies in the PPC Partners family, MetroPower and PieperPower, are targeting EV related projects in, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and several other states. Our companies share resources and knowledge to help us grow efficiently and provide effective solutions for our clients.
Is this a specialty service? Tell us about CarolinaPower’s service division… what else does it do?
Because we are an experienced contractor in the industrial market, clients can trust that their EV charging stations are powered and installed appropriately. Our service division typically performs smaller projects, including park renovations, industrial troubleshooting, lighting retrofits, and industrial and commercial maintenance.
How does Carolina Power plan to transition its resources to support this new market without impacting your ongoing business model?
CarolinaPower has a strong healthcare, industrial, and commercial resume that will support our involvement in the EV market. Several of our new projects in these markets include an EV component. Whether a public transportation maintenance facility requiring high powered charging stations for newly purchased electric buses, an industrial facility with chargers for their trucks, or a college campus with over 30 chargers in the parking lot, we’re seeing many new projects that include charging support.
Will Carolina Power have to “tool up” with additional capital, resources, equipment, geographic presence, personnel skill set, new business practices, etc., to be a responsive service provider in this new market?
Our experience allows our electricians to seamlessly address the EV market’s needs. We have learned to work with the software side of this business as well, and provide the unique installation required for individual manufacturers. Our team is also working with General Contractors for EV charger installations on their projects.
Any final comments?
Our team is prepared and ready to support clients’ needs for charging and infrastructure as this market continues to be adopted by companies, municipalities and individuals. Manufacturers and general contractors will be relying on contractors like CarolinaPower to install charging stations and allow their vehicles to deliver drivers to their destination.
