Choate Construction Announces Raleigh Senior Leadership Appointments

by Choate Construction on July 28, 2017

Choate Construction Company is proud to announce various senior leadership appointments to drive continued growth and opportunity in all facets of the business.

Dave Knudson is taking on the role of Choate Construction’s companywide Director of Strategic Pursuits. In this new position, Dave will champion strategic geographic growth for Choate with a focus on procuring and managing nationwide project pursuits. He will also aid Choate’s senior staff in managing large, complex projects where his vast experience can be leveraged across a broader spectrum within the company.

Tom Plant has joined Choate Raleigh as Division Manager. In this role, Tom will utilize his prior experience to provide leadership, direction, vision, mentoring, and oversight to all aspects of the business. With over 35 years of experience, Tom is a proven industry leader. He has delivered projects in a variety of market sectors and overseen operations throughout the Carolinas area.

“Tom is a true team player with an immense knowledge of the construction industry,” says Dave Priester, Choate President. “With over 35 years of experience, Tom brings operational savviness combined with a dedication to collaborative, relationship-based contracting to the position.”

Tom and Dave’s new roles further complement the recent addition of Raleigh’s Interior Construction Division led by James (“Jim”) E. Baker. Jim is a 26-year construction veteran with extensive experience in the local interiors industry spanning his entire career. Jim’s diverse background and widespread industry knowledge allows him to tackle the most challenging interior construction projects and serve as an expert resource in a variety of market sectors.

In the last year, Grady Matthews has also joined Choate as Director of Business Development. A Raleigh, NC native, Grady is a seasoned expert in the Triangle real estate market and has an extensive commercial development background. In this role, Grady develops and maintains client relationships while identifying and procuring new business opportunities.

The Raleigh senior leadership appointments continue to support Choate’s dynamic year of growth including the 100% employee ownership announcement, selection as the Southeast Contractor of the Year by ENR Southeast magazine, and having topped $1 billion in revenues.

“With the transition to 100% employee ownership, Choate is poised to grow both geographically and internally,” Dave Priester says. “The diverse expertise each senior leader brings to Choate Raleigh further enhances the already well-established team. We are thrilled with this exciting new era of Choate while we continue to maintain the vision and core values the company was founded upon.”
