Clemson CSM Department’s Dr. Joe Burgett: Winner of 2018 Alumni Master Teacher Award
As Clemson University students begin another semester of classes, Dr. Joe Burgett is beginning his sixth year as an assistant professor in Clemson University’s Construction Science and Management Department. As the Spring 2018 semester came to a close, Dr. Burgett was presented with the 2018 Alumni Master Teacher Award for outstanding undergraduate classroom instruction. This prestigious award is presented to a single Clemson University faculty member each year, nominated by the student body and selected by the Student Alumni Council.
Dr. Burgett teaches specialized courses in the construction science and management department in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection. Dr. Burgett also teaches a master’s degree course in sustainability.
In addition to his guidance in class, Burgett serves as the faculty adviser for the Associated General Contractors of America student chapter (Carolinas AGC) and is a member of the American Institute of Constructors. He also coaches the Associated Schools of Construction’s (ASC) commercial construction competition team. In the past two years the Clemson CSM commercial competition team took second place and Dr. Burgett is excited to build on these past successes. Last year, ASC honored Dr. Burgett with its national Excellence in Teaching award.
