Clemson Wins ABC Student Competition

ABC Carolinas’ Student Chapter Team Wins Construction Management Competition

Associated Builders and Contractors has announced the winners of its annual Construction Management Competition, which were honored at ABC Convention 2024 in Orlando, Florida, March 13-15. A total of 25 teams of undergraduate students from colleges and universities nationwide competed this year, and Clemson University, ABC Carolinas chapter, was named the overall winner of the 2024 competition, with the highest cumulative points in the five competition categories. Thirty-four member companies of ABC Carolinas were named 2024 Top Performers by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). This published national report recognizes outstanding achievements in safety, quality, inclusion, project excellence, and special designations ranked by number of hours worked. ABC Urges Biden Administration to Withdraw its Illegal, Ineffective and Costly Apprenticeship Proposed Rule

Associated Builders and Contractors submitted comments on March 18 on the U.S. Department of Labor’s controversial proposed rule overhauling regulations related to government-registered apprenticeship programs, or GRAPs. ABC urged the DOL to withdraw the illegal and misguided provisions of the proposal that will unnecessarily increase costs and discourage GRAP participation by employers, apprentices and apprenticeship, career and technical education program providers. Sustainability in Construction Continues to Evolve

Skanska’s Greg Cooper, senior project manager in the firm’s Durham office, writes: “When I was beginning my career, I had never even heard of LEED certification. Now a commonly known term, LEED was created by the U.S. Green Building Council back in 1998. Since that time, LEED has continued to improve and evolve, and today is the most widely used green building system, with transformative impacts on building design, construction, and operation.
