ConstructConnect Announces Fall Economic Webcast: 2018 Design & Construction Outlook – Cheery or Dreary?

by ConstructConnect on October 16, 2017

ConstructConnect, a leading provider of construction information and technology solutions in North America, announced its ninth annual fall economic webcast: 2018 Design & Construction Outlook – Cheery or Dreary? The complimentary webcast — featuring industry-leading chief economists Kermit Baker of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Ken Simonson of The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and Alex Carrick of ConstructConnect — will take place at 2 p.m. EST on November 2.

With construction activity upholding a slow yet positive trajectory, the webcast will disclose what economists in the construction industry expect for 2018. All three economists will take questions in the last half hour of the session.

“At a time when job creation is proceeding at a furious pace, and stock markets are roaring ahead, construction activity in many type-of-structure categories is only hesitantly plodding forward. There are numerous barriers to a capital spending lift-off. Particularly vexing for owners contemplating expansion plans are the uncertain public policy frameworks for taxation, infrastructure projects and, of course, health care,” explained Alex Carrick, chief economist for ConstructConnect.

“Rebuilding in the wake of hurricane damage will be a source of much work, but will it severely stretch material and labor supplies? A long-standing history of identifying and addressing such issues has made ConstructConnect’s semi-annual webcast the must-attend event for construction professionals. If you are in the business of construction, being fully informed is a pre-requisite for success.”

The webcast will cover numerous other questions relevant to the construction industry including:
-Which type-of-structure categories will forge ahead fastest?
-Which regions of the country can expect the most on-site work?
-Will shifts in U.S. foreign trade policy (e.g., NAFTA) lead to more investment or less?
-Coming Interest rate hikes – how quickly and how high?
-Will supplies of building materials and labor be adequate to the demand?
-When will the considerable potential in single-family housing starts be unleashed?
-Will a massive push to upgrade infrastructure occur as promised?
-Where is the U.S. dollar headed?

To take part in the webcast, register here. AIA members who attend the live broadcast will receive AIA CEU credit, and all registered participants can download the presentation slides and view the webcast archive.
