Evolving Women in AEC: Cheryl Biagini: President, Roadworks Construction
Roadworks Construction is a woman-owned construction business in Apex, N.C. with a specialty in roadway construction – from excavation and embankment to fine-grading and shouldering. In addition to roadway construction, Roadworks Construction team members are highly skilled in drainage, and concrete work with a focus on safety and quality.
Roadworks President Cheryl Biagini was one of four Triangle-area women recently highlighted in a series of communications – themed Evolving Women in AEC – distributed by Chix Dig It – Celebrating Women in Construction founder Patricia Lucas Smith. These communications were shared during Women in Construction Week 2020.
Chix Dig It Presents Cheryl Biagini
Cheryl Biagini, President of Roadworks Construction, Apex, N.C., is originally from Connecticut. While earning her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida, she interned for Granite Construction Company as a Business Management Intern. After graduation she was hired by Granite full time as an Office Manager for the Southeast Heavy Civil Division – working on projects in Mississippi, Florida and North Carolina.
During her five years with Granite, Cheryl worked on projects ranging from $22 Million to $187 million, managing an office staff that was responsible for all administration, accounting and HR functions.
After leaving Granite, Cheryl joined Charter Contracting Company, an environmental remediation contractor. At Charter, she worked in a strategic planning role where she led projects to improve company efficiencies, elevate company culture and develop recruitment and retention processes.
Cheryl and her business partner, Marcial, realized there was endless potential in North Carolina for quality civil contractors. With Cheryl’s skill set, she could run the “business side,” while Marcial – with his 25 years of field experience – could run the day-to-day field operations.
THE FIRESIDE CHAT
What are you reading right now? Blitzed by Norman Ohler.
Been anywhere recently for the first time? My husband and I went to Tokyo and Hong Kong over the New Year.
What’s your favorite family tradition? Growing up, my grandma always did a grab bag on Christmas day. The gifts were never fancy, but it was always so fun to pick a random gift. Now that I have my own children, we have started Christmas grab bag in our household.
Have you had your 15 minutes of fame yet? No. However, if anyone out there knows any TV producers, I have a great idea for a reality show starring a funny, smart, good looking, humble, youngish woman who recently started her own civil construction company.
