FMI Releases CIRT Sentiment Index, Second Quarter 2020 Report

by FMI Corporation on April 15, 2020

RALEIGH, N.C., April 15, 2020 –  FMI Corporation, the leading provider of consulting and investment banking services to the Built Environment, is pleased to announce the release of the second quarter 2020 CIRT Sentiment Index. The CIRT Sentiment Index is a survey, conducted quarterly by FMI, of members of the Construction Industry Round Table. The CIRT is composed exclusively of approximately 125-130 CEOs from the leading architectural, engineering and construction firms doing business in the United States. CIRT is an organization that is uniquely situated to represent the richly diverse and dynamic design/construction community. This quarter’s current issues questions polled CIRT membership closely around the effects of COVID-19, including metrics around business and project scheduling, workforce reduction and changes in price and availability of supplies.

Key findings from this quarter’s survey include:

  • With the impact of COVID-19, the second quarter of 2020 showed an unprecedented plunge in both the CIRT Sentiment Index and Design Index.
  • Among the segments and industries represented by CIRT’s member base, institutional and infrastructure sector performances suggest short- and long-term resiliency compared to other segments.
  • Overall, respondents are feeling significant uncertainty in the industry and found it difficult to keep up with the range of local and state restrictions.
