Four from Carolinas among AIA’s 2024 Young Architect and Associates Award Winners

Of the 30 recipients of this year’s national AIA Young Architects Awards, three are from the Carolinas – Elissa Morrison, AIA, with Liollio Architecture in Charleston, S.C.; Andy Goolsby, AIA, of withArchitecutre, in Durham, N.C.; and Shawna Mabie, AIA, with Hanbury in Raleigh, N.C.

Elissa Morrison, AIA – Always seeking to elevate the quality of life for the communities she serves, Elissa Morrison, AIA, has distinguished herself as an unparalleled leader and award-winning architect. Her influence has touched countless people from all walks of life. Dedicated to elevating the built environment of South Carolina’s Lowcountry and beyond, her work is the embodiment of local culture, context, and vernacular as a framework for giving back. AIA Associates Award

Of the five recipients of the 2024 AIA Associates Award, one winner is from the Carolinas – Asa Santa Cruz, Assoc. AIA, with BDG Architects’ Charlotte office.  The Associates Award is given to individual Associate AIA members to recognize outstanding leaders and creative thinkers for significant contributions to their communities and the architecture profession.

Asa Santa Cruz, Assoc. AIA – Few emerging professionals are as deeply engaged as Asa Santa Cruz, Assoc. AIA, whose leadership has profoundly impacted the pipeline for future architects. Since establishing herself in the profession, Santa Cruz’s has distinguished herself as a true citizen architect on the front line of diversifying the profession. The accomplishments Santa Cruz has already marked in her young career as a program manager in BDG Architects’ Charlotte office are only matched by her ceaseless volunteer efforts since joining AIA in 2016. The AIA Young Architects Award 2024 winners were selected by a six-member jury consisting of: Alicia Belton, FAIA, Chair, Urban Design Perspectives; Derrick Choi, AIA, Gensler; Beau Frail, AIA, Fox Fox Studio/Activate Architecture; Allison Mendez, AIA, CannonDesign; Burt Pinnock, FAIA, Baskervill and Jodi van der Wiel, FAIA, Moody Nolan.

The 2024 AIA Associates Award winners were selected by a five-person jury consisting of: Yanitza Brongers-Marrero, FAIA, Chair, Moody Nolan; Imani Day, AIA, RVSN Studios; Christopher Elcock, AIA, GWWO Architects; Petrina Gooch, Assoc. AIA, HED and Rusty Smith, Auburn University.
