Frampton Construction Completes Manufacturing Facility for Curtiss-Wright

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on December 18, 2019

Charleston, S.C. – Frampton Construction Company, LLC, a regional full-service construction firm providing planning and design support, preconstruction, and construction services, has completed a build-to-suit industrial manufacturing facility for Curtiss-Wright Corporation, a global, diversified manufacturing and service company. The project, developed by The Keith Corporation, is located within the Charleston Trade Center in Summerville, S.C.

The 144,000-square foot building is home to Curtiss-Wright’s Steam & Air Solutions (SAS) business unit and supports the design, manufacture, test, and shipment of U.S. Navy steam turbines and steam valves, nuclear steam turbines, aftermarket steam parts, upgrades, and overhauls. The facility was constructed of precast concrete panels and structural steel with complex heavy manufacturing equipment foundations and ceilings with a 40’ clear height, tall enough to accommodate large overhead bridge cranes and other specialty equipment.

“We’re thrilled to be locating our operations in Summerville and look forward to supplying our mission-essential products and services from our new, modern manufacturing, testing, and office facility,” said Greg Hempfling, senior vice president and general manager of the Electro-Mechanical Systems (EMS) division.

Manufacturing operations comprise 109,000 square feet of the building. Open office areas, private offices, conference rooms, and a cafeteria occupy the remaining 35,000 square feet. A steam test plant, which will be used by Curtiss-Wright to test products within the facility, is currently underway and will be operational by summer 2020.

“We’re proud to deliver this state-of-the-art facility for Curtiss-Wright. It took an incredible amount of coordination and teamwork to customize this facility for housing the specialty machinery and equipment required for the important work they’ll do here,” said Chad Frampton, CEO of Frampton Construction.

Additional partners on this project include McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, WGPM Engineering, and RMF Engineering. Construction began in November of 2018 and was completed in November of 2019.
