Greenville Welcomes ABC Carolinas 2024 Summer Convention

The ABC Carolinas (ABCC) Annual Construction Convention will take place at The Hyatt Regency Greenville, in Greenville, SC, August 7-9, 2024. This year’s theme – Building the Next Generation: Inspiring and Training Future Construction Leaders – will be the focus of the three-day event. The presenting sponsor is Milwaukee Tool.

Kristen Powell, ABC Carolinas President and CEO, noted “The Convention theme is based around our 2024 mission of ‘Building the Next Generation,’ and we have curated an amazing program that will help develop our young professionals, as well as guide current organization leaders on how best to lead these aspiring young professionals.”

Allen Amsler, ABCC’s 2024 Board Chair, pointed out earlier this year that he is energized by the unprecedented growth potential for our industry in the Carolinas, and with that, comes a need to continue to grow and develop the future workforce, which starts right within our own companies.

Activities will begin early Wednesday, August 7, with the Annual Construction Convention Golf Tournament starting at 8 a.m. at Furman Golf Club. The Convention will officially kick off later that evening with a Welcome Reception at 5:30 p.m. The following two days will include breakfast and lunch sessions with members on their own in the evenings to give everyone a chance to experience the nightlife of the ever-growing Greenville downtown. The convention will adjourn at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9.

Keynote General Session with Sean Glass with Echelon Front

Sean Glass is a former U.S. Navy SEAL officer, combat leader, and now a leadership instructor with Echelon Front. Sean spent 13 years in the SEAL Teams with three combat deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Eastern Africa. Sean returned from Iraq to serve as Officer-in-Charge of training for all West Coast SEAL Teams where he spearheaded the development of leadership training and personally instructed and mentored the next generation of SEAL leaders.

Sean then joined Echelon Front where he serves as a leadership instructor, bringing unique front-line perspective that blends tactical and executive leadership experience from the military and business environments to help build high performance, winning teams that thrive in ambiguous, adverse conditions.

Economic Update from Dr. Anirban Basu

Dr. Anirban Basu is Chairman and CEO of Sage, an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore, Maryland, and ABC’s Chief Economist. Dr. Basu is among the most recognizable economists, in part because of his consulting work on behalf of numerous clients, including prominent developers, bankers, brokerage houses, energy suppliers, law firms, and business associations. Dr. Basu earned his B.S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1990. He earned his Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and his Master’s in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. His Juris Doctor was earned at the University of Maryland School of Law in 2003, and he completed his Ph.D. in health economics at UMBC in 2020.
