GroundBreaker: Chris Spach, SouthCon Building Group
People make the construction industry what it is today. GroundBreak Carolinas is excited to share the story of yet another member of the inaugural class of GroundBreakers – individuals who are shaping our industry in a variety of ways.
Chris Spach is founder, President and CEO of SouthCon Building Group, LLC, based in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The company celebrated its 10-year anniversary last year and has earned a “best-in-class” reputation through award-winning achievements recognized by industry organizations such as the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Engineering News-Record. Oftentimes SouthCon clients are so pleased with their initial project experience, they contract with the company repeatedly for future projects.
Under Spach’s leadership, SouthCon has grown into a financially strong organization staffed with a talented team of construction professionals. While SouthCon primarily focuses on Greater Charleston, the company does perform work outside the Lowcountry region of the state. SouthCon currently has unlimited licensing in both Carolinas and Georgia.
Spach has over 30 years of Commercial General Contracting experience. He earned licensing in Commercial General Contracting in 1992 and became a LEED AP in 2005. Spach has a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management and serves on the Department of Construction Management Advisory Board at East Carolina University, his Alma Mater.
Spach takes great pride in mentoring construction professionals and Construction Management students. He is a strong proponent of hiring young Construction Management graduates (initially hired as Assistants and given a path to advancement as Project Manager or Project Superintendent) to “train the next generation of Construction Professionals.” Spach has, over the course of his career, been an advocate and mentor to many young aspiring builders seeking to make their mark in our industry.
About GroundBreaker Awards – This annual GroundBreak Carolinas awards program was created in Fall 2018 to recognize people who are making a significant impact on the construction community in the Carolinas. Our panel of judges reviewed a pool of nominations for men and women representing the entire spectrum of our industry – architecture, engineering, construction, academia, government, economic development, real estate and more.
