Harding CTE Program Hosts Construction Leaders

by GroundBreak Staff on April 3, 2017

Representatives of the North Carolina construction industry recently toured Harding University High School’s facilities. On the tour, the construction professionals learned what the school was doing with its Construction Technology program, an innovative program designed to train high school students who are interested in professional and technical level careers in construction.

Mark Mueller of Wayne Brothers, Inc., recently joined Dave Simpson and Bill Stricker of the Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC) on a tour of Harding University High School’s facility.

As the construction industry continues to face shortages in the number of skilled professionals joining its ranks, construction companies and organizations have taken a proactive approach to training the next generation. With this tour, Mr. Mueller lent his support to the program and its goals. The tour was on behalf of Build Your Career, a collaboration between CAGC and allied industry partners focused on the growth of future professionals in construction and programs geared towards training them.

“It was exciting to see the facilities being used to train future construction industry professionals,” said Mueller after the interview. “I hope that the Wayne Brothers, Inc., team and CAGC can continue to support the efforts of this program as we train the future leaders in our industry.”

Harding University High School is a magnet school that opened in 2016. Its goal is to attract students interested in pursuing careers in construction. The program has a focus on technology and training students to be prepared for professional level careers in planning, managing, building, designing and maintaining built environments. Kelvin Rattley Sr., the Academy Coordinator at Harding University High School, hosted Mr. Mueller and the CAGC team on the tour.

Wayne Brothers, Inc., offers concrete construction services in North and South Carolina and throughout the Southeast. The company has pioneered several innovations in the field, including its signature Building Information Modeling process, which shows the three-dimensional representation of a project along with cost and quantities and time estimates.
