Lisa Muzekari, PE, ENV SP, Thomas & Hutton’s First Female Shareholder

Thomas & Hutton is pleased to announce the selection of Lisa Muzekari, PE, ENV SP as a company shareholder. Muzekari joined Thomas & Hutton in 2013 and has 27 total years of experience in the environmental field. In addition to serving as Environmental Manager, Muzekari is a true trail blazer within the company as a founding employee of the firm’s Columbia office and the first female shareholder in Thomas & Hutton’s continued 73-year history.

As Environmental Manager, Muzekari provides oversight to environmental assessment, permitting, planning, and compliance strategies for municipal and private clients. Her areas of expertise include water, wastewater, air, environmental planning, permitting and compliance, industrial and hazardous waste, air modeling, and safety and emergency planning. Muzekari’s work results in empowering clients with the information to make sound decisions, to maintain regulatory compliance, and to limit risk associated with complex development-related issues. A recognized leader in the field, Muzekari excels at building lasting relationships with clients throughout the southeast during their time of growth and expansion and provides insight when problem-solving is needed. 

Upon joining Thomas & Hutton six years ago, Muzekari assisted the organization in expanding its service capabilities by bringing her breadth of experience in environmental assessments, permitting, planning, and compliance strategies for municipal and private clients. Muzekari’s abilities allowed Thomas & Hutton to work in expanded capacities on major economic development projects in South Carolina. She continues to provide environmental professional engineering services, as well as coordination and management of environmental affairs for a number of notable projects. She imparted her leadership and technical expertise in the development of Volvo Car’s first United States manufacturing plant in Berkeley County, S.C.; Mercedes Benz Vans Manufacturing facility expansion in Ladson, S.C.; Honda Manufacturing of South Carolina in Timmonsville, S.C.; and the South Carolina Samsung Facility in Newberry, S.C.

Muzekari obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of South Carolina. She is a Professional Engineer in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, as well as a certified Envision Sustainability Professional. Her involvement with professional organizations includes Water Environment Association of South Carolina (President 2004-2005), Water Environment Federation (Delegate 2007-2010), American Water Works Association, Carolinas Air Pollution Control Association, and Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. Muzekari was the recipient of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Arthur Sydney Bedell award in 2007; The Bedell Award was established to acknowledge extraordinary personal service to a WEF member association. She also received the Young Professional Award from the Water Environment Association of South Carolina.
