McCrory Construction’s Stephen Cooper, DBIA, Earns National Design-Build Certification

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on November 19, 2024

Stephen Cooper, DBIA, Director of McCrory Construction’s Greenville Operations, has earned the prestigious designation of Designated Design-Build Professional® (DBIA®) and the right to display “DBIA” after his name. This sought-after construction industry credential requires successful completion of the Design-Build Institute of America’s comprehensive “gold standard” education, training and certification testing program, including a rigorous exam. Substantial, documented project experience in design-build project delivery is a prerequisite.

According to the Design-Build Institute of America, DBIA certification provides the only measurable standard to evaluate a professional’s understanding of Design-Build Done Right® – key best practices proven to help clients deliver projects on time and successfully.

“Studying for the rigorous DBIA exam takes a lot of time and personal sacrifice. For Stephen and his team, this impressive industry credential will certainly add value when serving clients that choose to utilize collaborative project delivery methods,” said Allen Bridgers, President of McCrory Construction. “Our Greenville office continues to exhibit strong and steady growth, and Stephen’s professional achievement only enhances McCrory’s credibility as a leader in design-build delivery. This will position us well for recruiting new team members and pursuing new opportunities across the region, particularly in the manufacturing sector.”

Much of Cooper’s focus over his 13-year construction career – the past eight with McCrory – has been on design-build delivery of sizable industrial and commercial projects, both new buildings and facility upgrades. Under Cooper’s leadership, McCrory’s industrial team has garnered a reputation for their outstanding project delivery of several complex food processing and distribution projects in South Carolina, all with demanding “speed-to-market” construction schedules.

Cooper is a 2011 Graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Science and Management (CSM) and a minor in Business Administration. The youngest member of McCrory’s senior leadership team, in 2020 Cooper had the distinction of being the only construction operations executive named one of Greenville’s “Best & Brightest – 35 and Under.”
