NAWIC-Columbia Awards College Scholarships for Fall Semester 2020

by NAWIC Columbia on August 21, 2020

The Columbia, SC Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is proud to recognize the recipients of its 2020 Fall semester scholarships. The chapter’s scholarship program is designed to promote interest in the construction industry by assisting South Carolina men and women to achieve a higher level of education in the industry or a directly related field.

“As our industry continues to grow, we look to our high school and college programs for future leaders. These students have demonstrated an exemplary record and a passion for the future of the industry,” said Nichole Kopenhaver, assistant project manager with McCrory Construction and current NAWIC-Columbia Chapter President.

After careful review of student applications, the chapter’s scholarship committee announced the following individuals as Fall 2020 scholarship recipients: Addison Dicks, Allison O’Toole, Brittany Lacy, Hailey Krabbe, Hannah Smith, Jacob Fournier, Katherine Ashworth and William Cockman – all enrolled at Clemson University; John Walker and Thomas McElveen – University of South Carolina; and Mackenzi Zimmerman – South Carolina State University.

“Each year the committee is increasingly impressed with the applicants and their drive to become integral members of the construction industry. We are all looking forward to watching them on their paths to success,” said Kopenhaver.

The scholarship program is funded entirely through voluntary contributions and/or funds raised by the members of NAWIC Columbia Chapter #113. The chapter’s 36th Annual Golf Tournament, which raises money for the scholarship fund, as well as professional development, career events and community projects, is scheduled for held Friday, September 11, 2020.

“With the generous support of our sponsors, we are proud to be able to provide financial assistance to those individuals who represent achievement, civic responsibility and potential in our industry,” Kopenhaver noted.

NAWIC is an international organization of women working in and around the construction industry. Its core purpose is to enhance the success of women in the industry through education, networking, and leadership opportunities.
