NAWIC in the Carolinas: Celebrating WIC 2023

by Joan Krause on March 2, 2023

Women in Construction Week is celebrated all over the country and internationally. National Women in Construction (WIC) Week 2023 is scheduled for March 5-11. The National Association of Women in Construction’s eight chapters in the Carolinas belong to NAWIC’s South Atlantic Region – one of eight national regions for the association.

NAWIC South Atlantic Region Director Stephany Connelly noted, “The NAWIC South Atlantic Region is so proud to help facilitate WIC Week this year.  Our region’s chapters have been working so hard to plan some incredible events.  This year’s WIC week is packed with hard hat tours, panel discussions, supporting local charities, a huge end of week celebration and so much more! It’s a great opportunity for women in construction to join forces and celebrate one another, across the region and beyond.  It is our goal to bring awareness to women leaders joining the construction industry and to celebrate Many Paths, One Mission.”

Stephany Connelly, Director of Strategic Partnerships – Covenant Holdings/Covenant Solar and Roofing

WIC Week provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. It is also a time for local chapters to give back to their communities. Community service projects, jobsite tours, membership drives, children’s activities, hands-on workshops, fundraisers and school programs are some of the ways local chapters will observe WIC Week. Local chapters are also appealing to their local, state and national representatives to issue official WIC Week proclamations.

About NAWIC

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas in 1953. Sixteen women came together, knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, and organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. Today, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more.
