NC Construction Workforce Training Program Receives $1 Million Grant
An organization that focuses on developing and managing youth programs in Raleigh, NC received a boost in the form of a government grant. The Capital Area Workforce Development (CAWD), received a $1 million United States Department of Labor grant to establish a youth work-training program to train low-income young adults in the construction trades.
“The goal is to serve 60 young adults,” Eric Breit, CAWD’s Strategic Initiative Director, told The News Observer.
The youth work-training program will offer construction-related education and provide on-the-job training while helping to build affordable homes for low income families. The program will offer construction-related education, on-the-job training and job placement. CAWD hopes to serve 60 young adults ages 16 to 24 years old in high poverty areas, specifically the 27604, 27610 and 27601 zip codes.
The CAWD is a public-private partnership that focuses on economic development by ensuring the local workforce has the skills, training and education to meet the needs of local employers. The board oversees workforce solutions in Wake and Johnston counties designed to serve businesses and individuals of all ages.
