Preview: ABC Carolinas Construction Conference in Charleston
ABC of the Carolinas will be holding their annual Carolinas Construction Conference, August 2-4 in Charleston, SC. The 2017 Conference features national speakers, panel discussions, vendor showcase networking events and recreational opportunities.
“The Carolinas Construction Conference is the one and only conference in the Carolinas that brings the entire industry together,” said Doug Carlson, ABC Carolinas President & CEO. “ABC’s conference has programs on the economy, workforce development and seminars on construction-related business issues.”
Charleston’s DoubleTree Hotel will serve as the headquarters hotel for the Carolinas Construction Conference. The theme for this years’ event is Back to the Future. According to Michelle Lewter, ABC’s Vice President, the theme represents a focus on customer service and investme
nt in people. “By getting back to basics, we can focus on basic customer satisfaction, and the need to grow and cultivate our future skilled laborers,” she said.

Wednesday, August 2nd.
The first day features the Opening Reception and a Scavenger Hunt.
Thursday, August 3rd
Day two features ABC’s Chief Economist Anirban Basu providing an overview of the economy, and South Carolina Gubinatorial Candidate Catherine Templeton. ABC Carolinas Chairman Brian Gallagher unveiling the new ABC Carolinas Strategic Plan. The afternoon features the Annual ABC Bobblehead Golf Outing at Patriot’s Point and the Inshore Sea Fishing Tournament. The evening features a PAC Reception with Congressman Mark Sanford.
During the Conference opening session, Ryan Wathen, Rodgers Builders will receive the prestigious ABC Kirby Award. The ABC Kirby Award is presented by the ABC Board of Directors to an individual who has gone above and beyond in service to the construction industry. The award was named after Tom Kirby, a founding ABC Carolinas member, who set the bar for all
members to follow.
Friday, August 4th
The final day of the Conference begins with a Workforce Development Panel featuring Bill Caldwell, Waldrop Mechanical; Ryan Wathen, Rogers Builders; Greg Sizemore, ABC National; Steve Greene, NCCER; and Brian Gallagher, O’Neal, Inc.

The day concludes with a Meet the Generals networking event and a cocktail reception.
