Q&A with Graycor’s Jyot Parmar

by GroundBreak Carolinas on February 22, 2025

GroundBreak Carolinas recently sat down with Jyot Parmar, General Manager for Graycor’s Southeast Division. Jyot provided us with insight and perspectives on Graycor’s history and growth in the region.

Tell us about Graycor, your presence in the Carolinas.
Graycor established an office in Charlotte about 25 years ago. Since then, we’ve successfully worked on a range of projects in manufacturing, logistics, cold storage, industrial, and retail. Today, we have a large office in Charlotte, and satellite offices in Raleigh, NC and Greenville, SC. In April, we are relocating our Charlotte office to a larger space in Ballantyne to accommodate our growth. We have a great mix of long-term employees and newer team members in the Carolinas.

Tell us about your background and role with Graycor.
I joined Graycor in 2003 in our Chicago office. Working with Graycor I’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of complex, large-scale projects for our clients in industrial, manufacturing, cold storage, retail, and entertainment sectors. Currently, I serve as General Manager of the Southeast Division and also serve as a member of our Senior Leadership Team to help drive growth of the business. I was part of Graycor’s Engineering Mentoring Committee (EMC) program as I was learning business, and then had the opportunity to serve as a mentor helping develop and grow others in the industry. Now, I consider myself fortunate to serve our people and clients as a business leader in expanding Graycor’s presence in the Southeast, both in general contracting and self-perform areas. It is truly gratifying to see the growth of our people resulting in the growth of our business. On the personal side, I enjoy spending time with my wife, two daughters, and son. I’m an active volunteer with the Art of Living Foundation and the International Association of Human Values. In my free time, I enjoy playing percussion instruments, cooking, and golfing.

What types of projects does Graycor work on?
Graycor serves clients in a range of industries including manufacturing, logistics, industrial, and retail. Our projects can range from a few million dollars to several hundred million.

What are some current projects?
Graycor is very active in the Carolinas. We are currently working on a grassroots manufacturing project for Siemens Mobility in Lexington, NC where they will be manufacturing the next generation of rail cars; a new tools and accessories manufacturing facility for Robert Bosch in Lincolnton, NC; we are working on life sciences projects in the Raleigh, NC area for Fuji Diosynth and Johnson and Johnson; a new renewable natural gas project for Divert in Lexington, NC where they are taking food waste and turning it into renewable natural gas (RNG); and we recently completed an EV related project for BMW in Spartanburg, SC, and a metals project for Nucor. We are currently building spec industrial projects in South Carolina and are building three cold storage facilities for clients. On the retail side, we just completed the Restoration Hardware’s RH Gallery in North Hills in Raleigh, NC, and are working on renovation projects at South Park Mall in Charlotte, NC. We are also active with projects for power companies in North Carolina and South Carolina. That’s one of the things I like about Graycor—we have a mix of great clients with challenging and interesting projects.

What are Graycor’s values and how do they impact how you deliver projects?
At Graycor, long-term perspective is one of our core values, and it drives everything we do. We understand that resilience is key to sustaining success, which is why we continuously adapt to industry changes and stay ahead of emerging trends. With our national reach and deep expertise, we consistently deliver for our clients—project after project, year after year. Our commitment to long-term partnerships means we don’t just focus on completing a job; we focus on helping our clients grow and succeed well into the future. We proactively anticipate challenges, provide reliable and safe solutions, and approach every project with tenacity, resourcefulness, and an unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Safety and quality are at the core of everything we do. We believe that delivering exceptional results starts with a culture that prioritizes the well-being of our people, partners, and communities.

By holding ourselves to the highest standards, we ensure that every project is built with precision, reliability, and care. Equally important to our long-term success is our commitment to integrity and honesty. We believe strong relationships are built on trust, and we uphold that trust by being transparent, accountable, and dedicated to doing what’s right—always. What sets Graycor apart is our dedication to going above and beyond—earning trust that extends far beyond a single project. We take pride in working with some of the most respected names in the industry, delivering innovative, collaborative solutions that evolve with our clients’ needs. Our history of strong relationships and successful outcomes reflects this long-term mindset, and we continue to build on that foundation every day. At Graycor, we are always building something more.

What distinguishes Graycor from other contractors?
Graycor is a family-owned business founded in 1921. To this day, we maintain a family culture, and this is core to our long-term perspective I mentioned. Our people are our greatest asset and we believe that growth of people equates to business growth. This is part of our DNA and is central to how we’ve been able to build long-term relationships, many of which have spanned decades. Ultimately, we’ve been able to build trust and confidence with our clients that have led to partnerships where we are able to meet our clients’ changing needs throughout the country. I also think about how we like to take on challenging and complex projects. At Graycor, “Wanted: a Hard Job” is more than a motto—it defines our legacy. Since 1921, we’ve built our reputation by taking on the toughest challenges, from pioneering steel mill maintenance techniques to executing complex industrial and advanced manufacturing projects. We thrive where others hesitate, using our deep expertise, innovative solutions, and national resources to deliver results safely, efficiently, and with the highest quality.

What sets us apart is our unwavering integrity, honesty, and commitment to safety. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t back down from difficult jobs and challenges—we solve them and consistently deliver. Our long-standing partnerships with industry leaders are built on trust, reliability, and our ability to execute where it matters most. At Graycor, taking on hard jobs isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are. Our company tagline is “Building Something More,” and I’m excited to be a key part of the team that is building something more in the Carolinas.
