Rapid Response Coalition to Aid V.C. Summer Construction Workers
Several organizations, companies and the state of South Carolina have established a “rapid response coalition” to help assist workers who lost their jobs when SCE&G abansdoned its $14 billion project to build two new nuclear reactors at its V.C. Summer plant in Jenkinsville, SC.
Gov. Henry McMaster announced the coalition of public and private organizations called “Employ SC.” It will begin holding job fairs to assist those affected by the suspension of the project. The first event will be held in Chapin on Aug. 14.
According to the governor’s office, the coalition includes 16 state agencies as well as Michelin, Duke Energy, Georgia Pacific and United Infrastructure Group. The aim of the coalition is match prospective employers with workers that fit their needs.
“South Carolinians have faced and overcome many challenges, and we take care of each other – especially in hard times. I ask everyone to join me in once again showing those outside our state what it means to be one of us.”
Details for future Employ SC events will be announced at a later date.
