SeamonWhiteside Continues Expansion, Fueling Economic Development in Raleigh

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on August 13, 2024

Charleston, S.C. (August 13, 2024) – SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, is proud to announce their continued momentum in the Southeast, opening its second North Carolina office in the heart of Raleigh. Through its work, SW+ looks to support economic growth and development, strengthen communities, and deepen their roots in North Carolina.

“Many of our existing clients asked us when we would establish our presence in Raleigh,” said Gary Collins, vice president of SW+. “With our 40 years of experience working in the Carolinas and the team’s insider knowledge of Raleigh, we are exceptionally well-positioned to serve our clients in this vibrant and growing city.”

SW+ offers a unique combination of land planning and engineering expertise that will address the specific needs of the Raleigh market. Currently, the team consists of two landscape architects and a civil engineer, with plans to hire additional civil engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, and administrative staff. Additionally, upcoming collaborations within the community and project involvements will lead to indirect job creation in the region. They join SW+’s over 200 engineers and planners.

“We want to expand what SW+ is known for in the Carolinas: working with people, communities, and visionaries to create meaningful places,” said Jonathan Parsons, director of landscape architecture. “We are focused on building a team that is collaborative and celebrates working together to make great design both a priority as well as being attainable.”

About the Raleigh team:

Jonathan Parsons has an extensive background in urban design, master planning, project management, construction management, and public engagement. Notable local projects have included the FNB Tower and Plaza, Smoky Hollow and North Hills Expansion, and helping master plan developments across central NC. Parsons’ understanding of the Raleigh area and his local experience position him as a key asset to SW+ and the projects on the horizon as he leads the growing team as the director of landscape architecture.

Paul Medling joins the Raleigh team as a landscape architect project manager. Medling’s passion for ecological integrity, conservation, and preservation developed at a young age, and continues to play a major role in his work. As a landscape architect, he values the opportunities to center the environment around design, culture, discovery, and creativity through his projects. Medling has worked in the Raleigh area for seven years and has worked on a diverse range of projects including commercial, higher education, industrial, and public parks.

Allen Forrester is a civil engineering team leader who joined the Raleigh office with an extensive background in water and wastewater engineering design and program management, most recently overseeing the capital construction and master planning for Fort Liberty’s water and sewer systems. Forrester brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in utility master planning, capital construction, utility design, and more. Forrester’s technical expertise and passion for the bigger picture bring a unique perspective to the growing Raleigh team.

In SW+’s five other locations in North and South Carolina, their work has helped improve infrastructure, neighborhood revitalization, access to public spaces, and environmental sustainability. SW+ strongly focuses on philanthropy in the areas where they live and work. Each SW+ location supports the community through engagements that are meaningful to their team, including river clean-ups, tree planting, or heart walks. This ongoing focus on community involvement and support will continue with the Raleigh team to benefit current and future residents and visitors.

With future plans to have a dedicated office space, the Raleigh team currently works at 223 S. West Street, #900.
