Stewart Expands Cross-State Footprint by Opening Offices in Wilmington, N.C. and Columbia, S.C.
Stewart announced an expanded presence across the Carolinas with two new office locations in Columbia, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina. Opening the new offices creates a cross-state footprint that builds on the firm’s current headquarters in downtown Raleigh and existing office locations in Charlotte and Durham, bolstering its service offerings for current and future clients.
“The expansion into South Carolina is a natural fit for us as part of our overall growth strategy. Coupled with market demand, we knew that this was the right time and the right opportunity to strengthen our position and continue developing relationships throughout the Carolinas,” said Willy Stewart, CEO and founder, Stewart. “We are opening our Columbia and Wilmington offices with great momentum thanks to experienced leaders and significant projects in the pipeline. This is just the beginning as we look forward to bringing Stewart’s signature, interdisciplinary services to these markets and continuing to grow with each community.”
The Columbia office is led by Stewart’s Manager of Survey Karl Alewine, PLS, who has 34 years of experience working in the civil engineering industry. Stewart’s Wilmington office is led by Manager of Survey Sean Leggett, PLS, who brings 26 years of industry and market expertise to the company. They will report to Frank Mundy, PLS, geomatics practice leader at Stewart, as the firm builds upon its current geomatics services in each location and grows to include additional offerings.
With the expanded presence, Stewart’s practice areas can provide a deeper level of service to better serve existing clients and attract new clients. The proximity of the new Columbia and Wilmington locations to Stewart’s existing Raleigh, Durham and Charlotte offices also allows the firm to better share resources, both physical assets and mindshare.
The South Carolina office presents an opportunity for Stewart to build on its expertise and experience working for organizations such as departments of transportation, as well as state and municipal government, K-12 schools, university systems, multi-family developments and commercial projects. Not only has Stewart completed work throughout South Carolina, but the firm is seeing tremendous growth in the market area between Charlotte and Columbia, including Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Clover, and Chester.
The new office presence in Wilmington allows Stewart to build upon on a history of impactful projects, such as the Wilmington Riverwalk, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the Port City Convention Center. Stewart’s municipal planning and mobility practice area already has an active presence in the region, most recently completing the Swansboro Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) land use plan update, as well as working with the Town of Carolina Beach on a CAMA plan. In addition, the municipal planning and mobility group is currently overseeing the Pender County Unified Development Ordinance. The Wilmington office will help grow Stewart’s already substantial presence on the coast for municipal planning and mobility service offerings, and better position the firm to deliver its unique, data-driven and design-oriented approach that results in stronger and more creative solutions for the coastal communities.
