Thomas & Hutton Volunteers Helps Protect Charleston Shoreline
Giving back to the communities where it works is a core value of Thomas & Hutton (T&H), which provides comprehensive solutions to complex engineering and design challenges to a diverse group of private and public clients. T&H’s Helping Hands program is an internal monthly service-based volunteer program where employees donate “sweat” hours to help local non-profits.
T&H Helping Hands crews recently assisted with the building of an oyster reef in Charleston in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Charleston Waterkeeper. Volunteers took part in an assembly line to bring the oyster bags down to the shoreline and secured them in place to serve. The oyster reefs will serve as natural buffer and filtration system for the shoreline, as well as provide food and habitat for a number of plants and animals.
