Three Carolinas Women Recognized in this Year’s NAWIC South Atlantic Region Awards
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) South Atlantic Region is pleased to announce the recipients of its Future Leader of the Year, Member of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Awards. The mission of these awards is to recognize outstanding efforts of NAWIC members. All three winners are from NAWIC chapters in the Carolinas.
Belinda Doss, CIT has been named the 2020 Future Leader of the Year. Since joining NAWIC, she has earned the CIT designation, is a past board director and current Treasurer of NAWIC’s Columbia Chapter. Additionally, she is a member of several committees (serving as chair of two) of the organization. Dossis a Project Administrator with LCK, a certified woman-owned business. The Future Leader of the Year award was established to recognize outstanding contributions and efforts of a NAWIC member who has been actively involved throughout their first two years of membership.
Leslie Westervelt, CBT, has been recognized as the region’s 2020 Member of the Year. Westervelt, a member of NAWIC’s Charlotte Chapter, is a Senior Contract Administrator at Interco Building Company. Since joining NAWIC in 2012, she has served her chapter as president, vice president, treasurer and director. She has also chaired numerous chapter and regional committees. As membership chair, Westervelt was instrumental in increasing her chapter’s membership to its largest number to date. She is a proponent of construction education and encourages others to broaden their knowledge of our industry.
NAWIC’s 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Debbie Edwards, CIT of Premier Lighting & Control. A member of NAWIC since 1999, Edwards is a member of the Columbia Chapter. She has held every office on her chapter’s board, with the exception of treasurer, and chaired numerous chapter and region committees. Edwards has shared her knowledge of the industry and NAWIC expertise with countless new members, particularly how membership in NAWIC changed her as a woman in construction. She has a true passion for NAWIC and the construction industry as a whole.
The South Atlantic Region serves women working in all facets of the construction industry throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. We strive to offer networking and educational opportunities to members, other women of the construction industry, and our community. Every year NAWIC offers scholarship opportunities for individuals pursuing a career in the construction industry.
