ULI SC Upstate Gathers for Beer & Brainstorming at Redeveloped Plush Mill in Greenville

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on November 16, 2018

The Upstate ULI community joined on Wednesday, November 14 at Serendipity Labs at Plush Mill for the last “Beer & Brainstorming” of the year.

The evening kicked off with a discussion led by Serendipity Labs Founder John Arenas, and franchise owner Trey Scott, who shared insights into this fresh take on the co-working office environment. Mark Peters (Britt, Peters & Associates) and Shelby Dodson (CBRE) were also on hand to discuss the challenges and successes of adapting a former industrial site. The discussion was followed by tours of the facility and a networking happy hour.

The vision of Serendipity Labs is to deliver an upscale, hospitality-based workplace experience that can serve as an extension for businesses and a home base for established, independent professionals. There are currently 10 locations open across the U.S., with another 125 in development.

The event was sponsored by Cardno.

About Plush Mill

Greenville, S.C.-based Triangle Construction, known throughout the region as textile mill renovation experts, recently completed a redevelopment of the historic Piedmont Plush Mill originally built in 1925.  Britt, Peters and Associates was the Civil Engineering firm.

As detailed on the Britt Peters and Associates website, Piedmont Plush Mill was originally designed by J.E. Sirrine, a local architect who helped shape Greenville. The original mill had 24-pane windows on both sides and produced plush, mohair, velvet and auto upholstery fabrics on 28 looms.

The redevelopment keeps the open space, high ceilings, original flooring, exposed brick walls, and skylights. Britt, Peters provided the structural assessment of the existing wood and masonry structures and design for the renovation of the 25,000 SF building (circa 1925-1983).  The civil engineering scope included a 2.94 acre parcel annexation into the City, sewer main extension, ADA compliant parking lot and sidewalks, retaining wall and pocket park.
