United Minority Contractors of N.C. to Host 2018 Statewide Industry Day Event in Raleigh
United Minority Contractors of North Carolina (UMCNC) will hold its annual Statewide Industry Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The venue is N.C. State University’s (NCSU) McKimmon Conference and Training Center located at 1101 Gorman Street in Raleigh.
Industry Day offers attendees an excellent forum to share information and learn about upcoming opportunities in the construction industry throughout North Carolina and in neighboring states. As in past years, UMCNC has asked interested general contractors and construction management firms to share brief presentations of upcoming projects opportunities they will have available in near term.
“The primary goal of Industry Day is to help our partners and members prepare for the myriad of construction opportunities coming to the market in the next 12 to 18 months. A business owner leaving this event will be well equipped with access to all the information and resources they will need to successfully pursue and secure work across the state,” explained UMCNC Chair and Holt Brothers Construction Vice President, Patrice Gilmore.
Another major UMCNC focus at this year’s Industry Day is workforce development. “It is imperative that UMCNC take a leadership role in helping to attract, train and retain the next generation of construction professional to the industry. Like others, diverse contractors feel the effects of the skills gap left by an aging workforce. It is our mission to help fill that gap with young, talented men and women who can flourish on the livable wage construction careers provide,” said Gilmore.
Presenters will include representatives from North Carolina’s Department of Administration Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses, State Construction Office, Department of Transportation Office of Civil Rights, Capital Area Workforce Development, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Wake Technical Community College Apprenticeship Program, Wake County Public Schools, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, GoTriangle, and an assortment of private developers, general contractors and trade contractors.
