Waldrop Moves Forward with Succession Plan – Dennis Pruitt Named President, Jamie Porterfield to Chief Operating Officer

by Joan Krause, GroundBreak Carolinas on April 11, 2018

Waldrop, Inc., a leading full-service mechanical contracting firm, announces the fulfillment of planned leadership changes with Bill Caldwell moving into the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the promotion of Dennis Pruitt to President and Jamie Porterfield to Chief Operating Officer (COO).  These leadership changes were effective April 9, 2018.

In business for nearly 50 years, Waldrop has two main operating divisions: Waldrop Mechanical Services focuses on the commercial, institutional, industrial and healthcare sectors, while Waldrop Plumbing, Heating & Air focuses on the residential market.

Dennis Pruitt

Pruitt is a 24-year veteran of the design and construction industry who has held a variety of design, project management, and sales positions in both the engineering and mechanical subcontracting fields. A Registered Professional Engineer, Pruitt’s career history includes positions with well-known regional engineering companies and a statewide mechanical contracting firm. A Waldrop shareholder since 2011, Pruitt joined Waldrop 14 years ago and was most recently Executive Vice President responsible for sales and operations of Waldrop Mechanical Services.  He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Porterfield, also a Waldrop shareholder since 2011, is a 23-year veteran of the design and construction industry. He has worked with prominent local engineering firms and owned his own HVAC company prior to joining Waldrop 14 years ago. Prior to his promotion to COO, Porterfield was Executive Vice President responsible for sales and operations of Waldrop Plumbing, Heating & Air. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University.

Jamie Porterfield

“The promotions of Dennis and Jamie to these new leadership positions reflect another step in the implementation of the company’s management and ownership succession plan,” said Caldwell. “We feel it is very important for our clients, vendors, service providers, and most importantly — our employees — to know that we are committed to not only the long-term growth of the company, but also remaining a viable, locally owned, privately held contracting business.”
