Workers on Adolfson & Peterson Construction Job Sites Participate in National Safety Week 2016

by GroundBreak Staff on May 10, 2016

In honor of Safety Week 2016, 4,500 construction workers on 80+ Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) job sites from Seattle, Washington to Charlotte, North Carolina participated in daily activities designed to promote awareness and safe practices.

Safety Week 2016, held May 2-6, was initiated by CEOs and leaders from national and global construction firms representing the Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury-Free (IIF) CEO Forum. The event is aimed to inspire the commitment to safety leadership across the construction industry where more than 80,000 workers suffer an injury each year.

“As a co-sponsor of Safety Week 2016, AP has joined 60 leading companies and various industry associations to show that we can all work together toward a common goal of keeping our workforce safe and ensuring that all our workers go home safely every night,” said Rick Whitney, CEO at AP.

Each day over the course of the week, AP employees and subcontracting partners engaged in events related to safety in the workplace. These included daily safety talks, crisis management drills, fall protection demonstrations, and personal commitments to AP’s “Choose to ACT” and “Why I Work Safe” campaigns.

“Choose to ACT” is an AP campaign designed to promote Awareness, Commitment and Teamwork. All AP employees, as well as subcontractors are asked to take the following pledge:

  • To be Aware of my surroundings at all times, every day.
  • To Commit to stop any activity on this project that I feel is unsafe, without fear of retribution.
  • To take responsibility for myself and all of my Teammates to ensure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

AP’s “Why I Work Safe” campaign encourages employees, both in the field and in the office, to focus on the personal reasons they continue to maintain AP’s high safety standards.

“The Safety Week motto of ‘Many Roles, One Goal – Building Safely Together’ accurately reflects the approach of these organizations to share our best practices in preventing accidents and ensuring worker safety. The benefit will come as we learn from each other and lift the overall capabilities of our industry in preventing construction site accidents,” states Whitney.

AP is committed to an Incident and Injury Free work environment where everyone goes home safely every day.

About Safety Week

Many Roles, One Goal – Building Safety Together!

Every year, more than 80,000 workers suffer an injury on construction job sites across the U.S. Any one incident is one too many. Life is too precious to not make safety the number one focus in the U.S. construction industry.

That’s why over 40 national and global construction firms comprising The Construction Industry Safety (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury Free CEO (IIF) Forum have joined forces with a single aim: to inspire everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety.

We know being safe every day on every job site crosses competitive boundaries. That’s why we have banded together to create and celebrate the second US Industry Safety Week, running this year from Sunday May 1st to Saturday May 7th.
