Young & McQueen Grading Helps Raise Funds for Yancey County COVID Relief Fund
Young & McQueen Grading Company, Inc., a leading site development and heavy highway contractor based in Burnsville, N.C. spearheaded and sponsored a free, drive-in benefit this fall that raised more than $50,000 for the Yancey County COVID-19 Relief Fund. World-class band the Steep Canyon Rangers headlined the event, which was co-sponsored by Homeplace Beer Company. Attendees enjoyed the show from the safety of their cars while watching the show live on stage, broadcast on a big screen, and transmitted through the radio.
The proceeds, distributed by the Yancey Advancement Foundation, have already funded a utility assistance program designed to help locals who have been laid off and struggling to make their utility payments. Several other non-profits have applied for the balance and will be seeing that money soon.
“Thanks to the organizers and all the supporting partners who made this grant funding possible. To see the community come together to help those in need during these unprecedented times is truly a heartwarming and encouraging thing,” said Jamie McMahan, Director of the Yancey Economic Development Commission and executive director for Yancey Advancement Foundation.
Young & McQueen is one of many Carolinas AGC (CAGC) members that has answered the challenge in 2020 to honor the association’s 100th anniversary year by performing a good deed in their respective communities. No act was considered too small and CAGC has been featuring these “good deeds” (aka, 100 Acts of Service) on a special website created for its Centennial celebration.
