2021 GroundBreaker: Marcus Rabun, Myers & Chapman
GroundBreak Carolinas is honored to spotlight Marcus Rabun, a member of the exclusive group of 2021 GroundBreakers — five individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a difference for the construction community in the Carolinas. Rabun is Chief Executive Officer of Charlotte-headquartered Myers & Chapman, a full-service commercial construction company, and Founder of the Charlotte Commercial Construction Coalition (4C).
At the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, construction was deemed an essential business by both Mecklenburg County and the State of North Carolina, thus general contractors needed to find a way to keep crews working and safe. Rabun sprang into action to form the Charlotte Commercial Construction Coalition (4C) – a virtual group at the time, knowing the key to success would be collaboration with other general contractors in Charlotte.
More than a year later, the 4C group is still thriving under Rabun’s leadership and will last well beyond the pandemic because GC competitors learned through 4C that they are better together as colleagues. Rabun was a featured speaker at the ABC Carolinas Convention in Myrtle Beach in mid-August where he discussed 4C’s resounding success.
“I have admired Marcus for many years through my exposure to him in the industry and now as a member of ABC Carolinas, said ABCC CEO, Amy Sullivan Hicks. “I’ve enjoyed watching him grow into the passionate leader he is today and can’t wait to see what his future impact on the industry will be.”
A 20+ year construction industry veteran, Rabun became CEO of Myers & Chapman at the age of 38 after a decade in roles of increasing responsibility with the company. Previously, he had spent six years with Centex Homes.
A native of Matthews, Georgia, Rabun earned a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction and Contracting with a minor in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University. He holds Unlimited Commercial Construction Licenses in NC, SC, VA, TN and GA, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
The Charlotte Business Journal honored him as one of Charlotte’s Most Admired CEOs in 2020, and with the 40 Under 40 Award in 2019.
Rabun’s hobbies include outdoor activities such as hunting, camping, fishing and sporting clay shooting. He lives in Lake Wylie, N.C. with his wife, Kate and their daughter, Emily.
