“Chix in Motion” Teambuilding Event to Connect Women In/Looking to Enter AEC Industry

by Joan Krause, GroundBreak Carolinas on April 12, 2018

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) in the Triangle region is proud to be associated with the inaugural Chix in Motion networking and teambuilding event, a prelude to this summer’s “Chix Dig It – Celebrating Women in Construction” luncheon, planned to coincide with International Women in Engineering Day. Chix in Motion is scheduled for Friday, May 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Raleigh’s Tree Runner Adventure Park – a premier aerial adventure park with high-lining and a total of 70 obstacles.

Anna Lynch

Anna Lynch, PE, CEO of Raleigh-based Lynch Mykins Structural Engineers, PC, is championing this unique first-time event.  “Chix in Motion was conceived to foster a fun environment for SWE members and other female professionals in our industry to connect. We especially want to encourage those considering a career in architecture, engineering or construction to attend,” said Lynch. “Triangle-area SWE members are hoping this will be the most enjoyable networking event of the year! Attendees can connect with new faces, while hanging 30 feet in the air. Be assured that there are ranges of activities based on difficulty.”

Lynch Mykins, formerly Stroud Pence, provides full-service structural engineering services to a wide range of industries, including higher education, k-12, healthcare, commercial, government, life science, and sports and recreation. Dedicated to creative approaches, collaborative processes and integrated design, Lynch Mykins is headquartered in Raleigh, with offices in Virginia Beach and Richmond, Virginia.

For more information about the Chix in Motion event or the Chix Dig It Luncheon and how you can get involved, please contact the founder/organizer Patricia Lucas Smith at psmith@serving4success.org or call 919.669.1208. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

The 2018 Chix Dig It luncheon set for Thursday, June 21 at The Renaissance Raleigh-North Hills Hotel in Raleigh, N.C.  Now in its third year, Chix Dig It was founded by Patricia Lucas Smith, President of Raleigh-based Serving 4 Success, which focuses on growing sustainable opportunities in local communities. To date, Chix Dig It has been able to raise and distribute over $15,000 to institutions of higher learning in North Carolina, and we hope for continued support from the local AEC community. Proceeds from this year’s Chix Dig It luncheon will provide educational assistance to young women who want to pursue a career in engineering.

Preview of 2018 Chix Dig It Luncheon –  Chix Dig It will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on June 21, 2018, at the Renaissance Raleigh-North Hills Hotel. The event will begin with networking at the Walk of Fame, followed by lunch, and a panel discussion featuring key women in engineering.  Stay tuned for an announcement about 2018 panelists and speakers.
