Harper and ReWa Unveil Cutting-Edge, Sustainability Initiative for Clean Water
Harper General Contractors joined longtime client Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) last month for the official unveiling of the Bandalong™ Litter Trap – a first-of-its-kind sustainability initiative in the state of South Carolina. The Bandalong is designed to catch floating litter and debris in waterways, preventing it from moving further downstream. Initially installed in the Upstate’s Reedy River, the Bandalong has now been relocated to a second location with the assistance and support of Harper General Contractors’ HarperXS Division. Since the beginning of May 2023, more than 300 pounds of trash has been removed from the waterway in just a few cleanouts! The trap does not affect the hydraulics of the waterbody, nor does it affect aquatic life or wildlife.
Harper publicly thanked ReWa for their continued partnership, and recognized Pamela Evette, Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina, for speaking at the ceremony. During her remarks, Evette conveyed her dedication to conservation throughout South Carolina.
At the time of its initial installation, this Bandalong was one of only 28 in the United States. ReWa’s trash-trapping powerhouse collects an average of 30,000 pounds of trash per year.
